Project Spotlight: Harvest Moon Farms

Harvest Moon Farms was designed and constructed by Lineal Architects + Builders

Harvest Moon Farms is situated on a sprawling 15-acre property, is a harmonious blend of agricultural innovation and environmental preservation. Nearly half of the land is dedicated to preserved woodlands through a collaboration with the Barnstable Land Trust.

The design of Harvest Moon Farms was crafted to harmonize with, rather than overshadow, the antique home at the front of the property. From the street, the barn and much of the farm remain hidden from view. However, as one meanders along the road, curving gracefully around the property, the barn suddenly emerges, transporting visitors to a new and unexpected realm of natural beauty.

The barn, a spacious 6,271 square foot post and beam structure, serves as the hub for retail operations, housing offices and providing storage. The retails space features a grand 30 foot stone fireplace—a deliberate representation of the farm’s core values and the very soul of its business—the ideal spot for gathering after a full day’s harvest.

An overarching philosophy prevails at Harvest Moon Farms—a commitment to producing top-quality food while maintaining the lightest possible carbon footprint—60 solar panels adorn the south-facing roof of the barn. The farm is designed and constructed to incorporate drip irrigation, a technique that consumes 30% to 50% less water than conventional spraying. Additionally, the vegetable beds are thoughtfully maintained as permanent, no-till structures, further enhancing the farm’s sustainable practices.
