Antique Renovation: Modernizing a South Shore Classic

Modernizing an antique presents a series of challenges for how to integrate new ideas of living into a design from an entirely different era. Kitchens and baths are the obvious places where modernizing not only make sense, but becomes a necessity based on how we use our houses day to day.

For this project in Kingston, a house from the 1700′s had been continually added on to over the centuries making spaces fairly tight, circulation cumbersome, and very little visual connection from one room to another. Working closely with our Structural Engineer, we were able to open up the floor plan considerably by adding a series of steel beams to support the roof above where walls had been previously.
